Government Projects

The Government of Uganda has implemented various projects aimed at intervening in different aspects of fisheries management and development. Below is a list of Projects cover capture fisheries production, aquaculture production, aquatic weed control, monitoring, control and surveillance, fisheries licensing and non-tax revenue, fish trade, and marketing.

  1. 1.    Uganda Multi-Sectoral Food Security and Nutrition Project (UMFSNP): - CONCLUDED

            This project aims to improve food security and nutrition among poor rural households in Uganda. It includes components related to fisheries and  aquaculture development, such as promoting sustainable fish farming practices and enhancing fisheries management.

  2. 2.   Lake Victoria Environmental Management Project (LVEMP): - ONGOING

           This project focuses on improving the environmental management of Lake Victoria and its basin. It includes interventions for controlling aquatic weeds, which can impact fisheries production and biodiversity.

  3. 3.    Aquaculture Development Project (ADP): - ONGOING

           This project is dedicated to promoting the development of aquaculture in Uganda. It includes activities such as providing technical assistance, training, and support to fish farmers, as well as infrastructure development for fish production.

  4. 4.  Fisheries and Aquaculture Development Project (FADP): - CONCLUDED

        This project aims to enhance fisheries and aquaculture production in Uganda. It includes components related to improving fish processing and marketing, enhancing value addition, and strengthening fisheries management and governance.

  5. 5. Fisheries Monitoring, Control, and Surveillance (MCS) Project: - CONCLUDED

        This project focuses on enhancing the monitoring, control, and surveillance of fisheries activities in Uganda's waters. It includes measures to combat illegal fishing, enforce fisheries regulations, and ensure sustainable fisheries management.

  6. 6. Fisheries Licensing and Non-Tax Revenue Enhancement Project: - CONCLUDED

        This project aims to improve the efficiency and transparency of fisheries licensing processes in Uganda. It includes initiatives to streamline licensing procedures, enhance revenue collection, and prevent illegal fishing activities.

  7. 7.    Fish Trade and Marketing Project: - CONCLUDED

        This project focuses on promoting the development of fish trade and marketing networks in Uganda. It includes activities aimed at improving market access for fish farmers, enhancing value chains, and strengthening market linkages.

These projects are part of the government's efforts to promote sustainable fisheries management, enhance fish production, improve livelihoods in fishing communities, and contribute to food security and economic development in Uganda.
