Directorate of Fisheries Resources

The Directorate of Fisheries Resources (DiFR) under MAAIF is mandated to provide Technical Guidance for the Formulation, Review, and Implementation of Policies, Legislation, Standards, Plans, and Strategies in the areas of Fisheries Production, Fish Capture, Regulation, and Control.

The Directorate also provides guidance on the generation, dissemination, and application of appropriate technologies and the provision of advisory services for the development of value chains in the sub-sector.

Plus developing and promoting collaborative mechanisms with National, Regional, and International Institutions and Organizations on issues pertaining to the sub-sector including management of transboundary resources.

Fish For The Future

Licensing

The processes of the issuance of licenses involves the registration of the fishers and an application on their part expressing their interest to operate in the kind of fishery for which a license is issued, In order to get licenses, the fishers have to log in online; this kind of licensing is referred to as e-licenses

Directory

The Fisheries Directory,  serves as the Ministry’s advisory and executive body in matters pertaining to fishing and the management of aquaculture. The main tasks involve regulation, guidance, supervision, resource management and quality control.

Research

The research work is done on the aquatic animals, fisheries science, fishing technology, fisheries management, and relevant socio-economics to improve its breed, migration, and its ecosystem.

To support sustainable, market-oriented fish production, management, development, control quality and safety of fisheries products; for improved food security and household income. The directorate formulates, review and enforce fisheries legislation, regulations and standards for fish production, capture fisheries and processing. Provide technical guidance for formulation, review and implementation of policies, legislation, standards, plans and strategies in the areas of fisheries production, fish capture, regulation, and control.Monitor, inspect, evaluate, and harmonize national programs and projects in the sub sector. Advocate for and mobilize resources for the sub sector. Build human and institutional capacity for delivery of services in the sub sector. Develop and promote collaborative mechanisms with national, regional and international institutions and organizations on issues pertaining to the sub sector including management of trans boundary resources. Provide guidance on the generation, dissemination and application of appropriate technologies and the provision of advisory services for the development of value chains in the sub sector.
