The Directorate of Fisheries Resources (DiFR) under MAAIF is mandated to provide Technical Guidance for the Formulation, Review, and Implementation of Policies, Legislation, Standards, Plans, and Strategies in the areas of Fisheries Production, Fish Capture, Regulation, and Control.
The Directorate also provides guidance on the generation, dissemination, and application of appropriate technologies and the provision of advisory services for the development of value chains in the sub-sector.
Plus developing and promoting collaborative mechanisms with National, Regional, and International Institutions and Organizations on issues pertaining to the sub-sector including management of transboundary resources.

The Directorate of Fisheries Resources (DiFR) under MAAIF and Directorate of Animal Resources is mandated to provide technical guidance for formulation, review and implementation of policies, legislation, standards, plans and strategies in the areas of fisheries production, fish capture, regulation, and control.The Department also provides guidance on the generation, dissemination and application of appropriate technologies and the provision of advisory services for the development of value chains in the sub sector.Plus developing and promoting collaborative mechanisms with national, regional and international institutions and organizations on issues pertaining to the sub sector including management of trans boundary resources. The Department compiles data and information for its own use and for dissemination to stakeholders. To support sustainable, market-oriented fish production, management, development, control quality and safety of fisheries products; for improved food security and household income. The directorate formulates, review and enforce fisheries legislation, regulations and standards for fish production, capture fisheries and processing. Provide technical guidance for formulation, review and implementation of policies, legislation, standards, plans and strategies in the areas of fisheries production, fish capture, regulation, and control.Monitor, inspect, evaluate, and harmonize national programs and projects in the sub sector. Advocate for and mobilize resources for the sub sector. Build human and institutional capacity for delivery of services in the sub sector. Develop and promote collaborative mechanisms with national, regional and international institutions and organizations on issues pertaining to the sub sector including management of trans boundary resources.
